A Repoussé Silver Figure of Moses

A Repoussé Silver Figure of Moses

A repoussé silvered figure of Moses, standing with the Tablets of the Law and the classic radiating horns above the brow, after Michelangelo's late statue from San Pietro in Vincoli. The silver sheet captures the prophet's flowing beard, the twisted torso and the dramatic gesture of the hand against the chest, all rendered through chasing rather than casting. The figure rests on a rectangular hardstone base in black jasper, which sets off the cool tone of the silver. A devotional and decorative piece of refined craftsmanship, in the Italian or Continental revival taste of the late XIX and XX century, with an even natural patina.
