A malachite and gilt bronze jewelry box, First quarter XIX Century
A rectangular jewelry box on gilt bronze scrolling feet, the sides decorated with malachite veneer that gives the piece its intense emerald striations and depth. The lid is set with a painted glass panel simulating malachite and framing a small lakeside landscape at the center, enclosed by an ornate gilt border.
Inside, the box is lined with a soft blue fabric, with the interior metal and gilding showing burnishing, wear and age; there are defects and signs of use, including broken outer glasses on the lid, which add to its unmistakable 19th‑century character rather than hiding it.
