A cut cristal covered vase mounted on a gilt bronze round base

A cut cristal covered vase mounted on a gilt bronze round base.

Saint Petersburg, Russia, First quarter XIX Century.

H 63cm

A cut crystal covered vase, the body finely cut with continuous spiral flutes and bands of pointillé, the domed cover with a faceted finial in olive form. The piece is mounted on an Empire-style gilt bronze base, the spreading foot cast with leaves and a rosette band over a finely textured ground. The crystal catches and refracts the light along every cut, with the diagonal flutes drawing the eye upward toward the finial. A fine example of European crystal cutting, in the French or Bohemian tradition, ideal as a centrepiece or a collector's object.
