A 24kt Gold-Plated Ceramic Plate with the Aztec Calendar

A large decorative wall plate in glazed cobalt blue ceramic, the front embossed with a sheet of 24kt gold depicting the Aztec Sun Calendar, after the XII-XIV century pre-Columbian monolith now in the Museo Nacional de Antropología in Mexico City. The rays, central face and concentric bands are reproduced in pierced and etched gold relief, set against the deep blue ground and accented with small inset turquoise cabochons. The reverse carries the maker's stamp of mortella s.r.l., with the Italian hallmark for 24kt gold and an etched attribution to the Mexican original. A signed and hallmarked modern replica of strong decorative presence.
